North East Masters Track & Field Relays 2022

Who doesn’t love a relay? It’s a fantastic experience to run as part of a team and for whatever reason you always run like your backside is on fire.

The final North East Masters Track and Field meeting of the year always concludes with 4x100m and 4x400m relays. This year I was fortunate to compete alongside Denis Pang, John Tuton, Steve Dodds as part of an amazing North Shields Polytechnic M40 4×100 relay team. Denis, John and Steve ran three great legs, which made my job of running the last leg easy. We ended up besting the previous M40 4x100m record by 3.6s, and equalling the fastest time set by any age group in the history of North East Masters Athletics.

Following on from the success of the M40 4×100 team … I then joined Charles Hall, Dave Gilmore, and David Hughes in the M55 4x400m relay team. Again we had a great race, knocking 18.9s off the previous record, take home another North East Masters Athletics League record for North Shields Polytechnic.

Well done fellas, especially Charles who is an M65 distance athlete, drafted in as a last minute replacement, and running in his first relay.

Denis Pang, John Tuton, Steve Dodds, Stuart Lynn
