The Road to Torun (Part 6) – Make it last then make it fast, 2023 Indoor Competition Schedule.

After missing a couple of weeks training over Christmas with sore ribs, thankfully this week’s training has been back on schedule. The plan is to ‘make it last then make it fast’ i.e. A winter of strength, conditioning and speed endurance have hopefully helped build up my core endurance, and the speed sessions which return next week, should add the performance. This was what how the week shaped up:

  • Sunday 1/1/2023 – 10×100’s with 50m walk recovery (18s/100 pace)
  • Tuesday 3/1/2023 – 2 x 500’s with 8 mins recovery (17s/100 pace) first rep on the money, second rep much tougher due to the relatively short recovery.
  • Thursday 5/1/2023 – 1×100 + 2×150 + 3×200 with 4 mins recovery (15s/100) managed to hit all the marks but massive lactic burn the last 50m of the final rep, which is all part of the process.
  • Saturday 7/1/2023 – 200 + 250 + 100 + 350 + 200 with 4 mins recovery (15-16s/100m)

As well as working to a training plan that hopefully delivers me in the best possible shape for the World Indoor Championships on the 26th March, it’s also important to fit some racing into the schedule. This is currently how my schedule looks between now and Torun.

  • 21st Jan – Open Indoors Meeting – Sheffield (200m & 400m)
  • 12th Feb – Scottish Championships – Glasgow (200m & 400m)
  • 18th Feb – British Championships – Sheffield (400m only)
  • 4th March – Masters Grand Prix – Sheffield (200m & 400m) *option depending on how the first three events go*
  • Wrap myself in cotton wool 😂
  • 26th March – WMA Indoor Championships – Torun (400m & 200m)

Until next time …
